Class IX student dies in Dhanbad school

DHANBAD: Ajay Kumar Sao (15), a Class IX student at Symbiosis Public School in Loharbarwa area under Barwadda police station, died in school on Monday afternoon.

"A teacher entered the class around 12.15 pm and found the student sitting in one corner with his head down. When the teacher asked what was wrong, one of Sao's classmates said he was not feeling well. Then the student fell down and lost consciousness. He was taken to the sick room where he started gasping for breath. He was taken to Shaheed Nirmal Mahto Medical College and Hospital where doctors declared him dead," Indrani Ghosh, principal of the school, said.

Bikram Kumar, the inspector-in-charge of Barwadda police station, said, "No FIR has been lodged by the parents of the deceased boy."

Deputy SP Amar Kumar Pandey said: "When asked, Ajay's father Jagdish Daon told the police that his son had breathing troubles and a suspected cardiac ailment.

‘Had he been sick, he would not have gone to school’
Pandey said, "Since no FIR was lodged, there was no need for an autopsy." Jagdish, an employee of the Indian Railways, told reporters later that his son was fine when he left for school in the morning. "Had he been sick, he would not have gone to school," Sao said.

However, Ajay's body is still at SNMMCH as the hospital management said it needed a written declaration that the body will be handed over to the parents without autopsy.
