Young Cancer Patient’s Dream Fulfilled
In a heartwarming and inspiring gesture, a city-based medical oncologist Dr Satish Sharma fulfilled the wish of a young cancer patient undergoing treatment under his care by arranging a special meeting with governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar. The young patient is also an emerging entrepreneur. The governor appreciated the patient’s courage, entrepreneurial spirit and determination to fight cancer with strength.
Exhibition on postal history
An exhibition titled “Get Yourself Counted: A Postal History of the Census in Independent India”, curated by Vikas Kumar and organised by Azim Premji University, was inaugurated by Prabhat Kumar, director of census operations, Jharkhand, at Audrey House in Ranchi on June 5. The one-day exhibition highlighted the role of India’s postal network in conducting and promoting census operations before the digital age.
Awareness on drug abuse
Amid rising substance abuse, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) organised a two-day special awareness and master trainer training programme on June 5 in the city, with the aim of spreading awareness and helping people lead a new life. NCB official Saif Umar appealed to youths to stay away from drugs and also make others aware of their harmful effects on society.
Kidnap mystery takes romantic twist
What began as a kidnapping investigation at Bokaro’s Sector-4 police station ended with an unexpected wedding revelation. The 18-year-old woman, whom police were searching for, walked into the police station hand-in-hand with her boyfriend, now husband, Prem Kumar. She told officers she had left home willingly on May 24 and married him at a Shiva temple in Ranchi.
A hunger strike, a passing convoy, and an unexpected turn
What began as a one-man hunger strike in Chas took an unexpected twist on Monday when Bokaro DC Ajay Nath Jha spotted the protest while passing by. Instead of moving on, he stopped, met protester Satish Jaiswal and heard his grievances firsthand. With immediate directions issued to officials, the protest that lasted for days ended within minutes.
ESL Steel gifts 6 more breathalyzers to police
When the police, despite having 20 breath analysers, managed to catch only about 150 drunk-driving cases in a year, ESL Steel stepped in and “gifted” six more machines. Officials said the added devices will strengthen enforcement, though many wonder whether the challenge is lack of machines or the effort to catch offenders.
