Chatra: A man was arrested with 96 bottles of spurious liquor late on Tuesday, the police here said. The accused Vijay Kumar, 30, was arrested at a vehicle check point near Pandeypura mosque under Hunterganj police station limits, the police said.
“A motorcycle (JH13F-3586) was intercepted after cops found the rider’s movement suspicious. During interrogation, he identified himself as Vijay Kumar (30), a resident of Dharmpur village under Pratappur police station limits. Vijay was carrying a sack, which was searched. In it, four cartons in the sack contained 96 bottles of spurious liquor, each of 375 ml, were recovered,” Hunterganj officer in-charge Prabhat Kumar said in a press conference on Wednesday.
Though the police probe is underway to ascertain where was the consignment headed, sources claimed it might have been bound for Bihar.
A case has been registered at Hunterganj police station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Excise Act, Kumar added.
