Ranchi: A police constable deputed in the account section of Bokaro superintendent of police (SP) office was arrested and Rs 8.75 lakh seized from his house in Bokaro in the Bokaro treasury scam on Thursday, taking the total number of arrests in the case to four, the criminal investigation department (CID) said in a statement.
“The constable, identified as Kajal Mandal, was an accomplice of the key accused of the case, Kaushal Kumar Pandey. The seized cash was sent by the latter to his account under the travelling head, the CID added.
Acting on the direction of the state govt, the CID formed an eight-member special investigation team (SIT) to investigate the illegal withdrawals from the treasuries of Bokaro and Hazaribag districts under the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Information Technology (IT) Act. Led by inspector general Pankaj Kamboj, the SIT last Thursday seized documents of 4.08 decimal plot with a three-story house on it and a 4.98 decimal plot at Telidih in Chas and froze Rs 1.93 crore transferred to different bank accounts and fixed deposits, totalling Rs 18 lakhs. Others nabbed in this case are Satish and Ashok Kumar Bhandari.
Two superintendents of police (SP), three deputy SPs, and two inspectors are members of the SIT.
