Bokaro Steel Plant Brownfield Expansion Revived: Tenders Floated for Rs 20,000 Crore Project

Bokaro: The Bokaro Steel Plant (BSL) has taken a decisive step towards implementing its long-pending brownfield expansion project. After months of uncertainty, the project has been revived through two key “enabling packages”, laying the groundwork for large-scale expansion. The initiative is expected not only to enhance production capacity but also to act as a catalyst for economic and social development in Bokaro and surrounding areas. Chief of communication, BSL, Manikant Dhan confirmed that tenders have been floated for two enabling package for brownfield project of BSL. The project was formally announced on Jan 28, 2025, by Union minister for steel and heavy industries H D Kumaraswamy during his Bokaro visit. He then had stated that the expansion would involve an investment of nearly Rs 20,000 crore. The project aims to increase BSL’s hot metal production capacity from existing 5.25 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) to 7.55 MTPA.
