Bokaro Police Launch Rakshak Riders for Enhanced Night Patrol and Crime Deterrence

Bokaro: The district police on Saturday rolled Rakshak Riders, a dedicated motorcycle patrol unit, to strengthen night patrolling in the city.

SP Harvinder Singh, who flagged off the unit from the police lines, said, “The Rakshak Riders will conduct regular night patrols, particularly in sensitive and vulnerable areas, enabling quicker response to incidents and surveillance of criminal and anti-social elements. Increased police visibility during night hours will act as a deterrent to crime.”


The unit will have 40 motorcycles and 75 dedicated police personnel. Police officials said the personnel will be deployed across the district based on prevalence rate of criminal activities.

While the unit will be responsible only for carrying out night patrols, it will be held accountable for failing to curb thefts, dacoity or any other criminal activities in their respective areas.

He also said the objective of the initiative goes beyond routine policing. “Night patrolling is not only about maintaining surveillance but also about giving confidence and a sense of safety to the public. The Rakshak Riders will ensure a strong police presence in sensitive areas and respond swiftly to any untoward incident.”

Emphasising public participation, the SP added, “A safe city is possible only through active cooperation between the police and citizens. Even small acts of alertness by the public can make a significant difference in preventing crime.”

Several senior police officers from the urban areas were present during the launch. Bokaro police also issued an advisory to the public, urging residents to secure their homes, shops, and establishments properly during night hours. Citizens were asked to install CCTV cameras, adequate lighting, and remain vigilant about suspicious persons or activities.

The police further appealed to residents to immediately inform the nearest police station or dial 112 in case of any suspicious movement, verify tenants and domestic help, and notify the local police station when leaving homes locked for extended periods.
