Dhanbad : More than 550 students from govt schools situated in Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) operational and project-affected areas participated in a one-day Science Technology Engineering Mathematics (STEM) education workshop organised at the IIT (ISM) Dhanbad on Thursday under a CSR initiative funded by BCCL.
The workshop, titled “Promoting STEM Education for Underprivileged and PAP Students through Innovative Techniques”, is aimed at developing scientific curiosity among students through logical reasoning, digital tools and experimental learning methods. As part of the programme, students visited several premier facilities at IIT (ISM), including the TexMiN Innovation
Hub, Robotics Laboratory, Geological Museum and Central Library.
BCCL chairman-cum-managing director Manoj Kumar Agrawal said such initiatives would contribute towards achieving the vision of “Viksit Bharat 2047” by motivating children towards science, technology and innovation.
IIT (ISM) deputy director Prof Dheeraj Kumar highlighted the importance of STEM education in nurturing “ideation, innovation and incubation” among students. He said quality scientific education should not remain confined to private institutions and proposed establishing advanced tinkering laboratories in selected govt schools with BCCL support.
District education officer Abhishekh Jha said the initiative would strengthen scientific temper, analytical thinking and problem-solving skills among students, preparing them for higher education and careers in science and technology.
