Dumka: Five armed men on two motorcycles robbed a jeweller of gold and silver ornaments worth nearly Rs 4 lakh near Bajrangbali bus stand in Fatehpur market in Jamtara district on Friday night.
The victim, Amarjeet Verma was returning home on a two-wheeler after closing his shop at around 8 pm when the assailants intercepted him near the bus stand, police said on Saturday.
Verma told the police that the attackers tried to snatch his bag and when he resisted, one of them pulled out a pistol and threatened to shoot, prompting him to hand over the bag containing the jewellery. The robbers fled after taking his bike key’s and escaped.
Verma’s house is barely 100 metres from the scene of the crime. He claimed that the bag contained jewellery worth Rs 4 lakh but the police are yet to confirm the exact value.
Officer in-charge of Fatehpur police station, Amar Kumar Tapey said, “There were no CCTV cameras near the scene mentioned by the victim, but footage from nearby cameras is being examined. The culprits will be arrested soon.”
