13-year-old boy drowns in Jamunia Dam
Hazaribag: A child drowned while bathing in the Jamunia Dam in Vishnugarh on Thursday. The deceased was identified as Vishal Kumar, 13, a resident of Ramnagar Kadma Road, Hazaribag. According to family members, Vishal arrived with his parents on Thursday morning at his maternal grandfather, Sitaram Saw's house in Karonj Mod. In the afternoon, he went to bathe in the Dam with some neighborhood children. During the same time, he slipped and fell into the deep water. Seeing him drowning, other children raised an alarm. Hearing the noise, people rushed to the scene, pulled him out, and took him to a private nursing home at Bishnugarh.He was taken to the hospital, where doctors declared him dead, said Subhash Singh, officer-in-charge of Bishnugarh police station.According to reports, the place where the child drowned is the site of a deep depression caused by the waters of the Jamunia Dam. This has created a deep pit. During the summer, people risk their lives to bathe there even though the area is deserted. Locals have demanded safety measures to be taken at the site to prevent accidents. Body was later sent to Hazaribag for post-mortem.
