Man gets capital punishment for raping and murdering a three year-old
BILASPUR: A fast track court of Raigarh on Friday awarded capital punishment to a man who had raped and murdered a three year-old girl in February this year. At the same time the court has also ordered the state government to provide financial aid to the family of the victim, considering their poor financial condition.
Fast track court presiding judge Yogesh Parikh awarded capital punishment to the accused Lochan Shrivas, who on February 25, 2016, had first raped and then murdered a three year-old girl.
On the day of the incident the accused had first raped the minor and then strangulated her to death. He had then thrown the body wrapped in a gunny bag into bushes. The incident had created a lot of uproar in the township, which also witnessed a protest against the crime.
Lochan Shrivas was soon arrested after the incident and charged with rape and murder of the minor. Members of Raigarh bar association had declined to represent the accused in the court.
The matter was heard in fast track court and after three months and 22 days of hearing the judge announced the decision on Friday. In his judgment Parikh termed the crime as rarest of the rare and did not hesitate in awarded capital punishment to the accused. Besides, the court has also ordered the state government to pay Rs 5 lakh to the family of the victim, considering their poor economical state.
