Raipur: Someshwar Prasad Ganjir, a student of Pt Ravishankar Shukla University (PRSU), secured the 1st position in Hindi elocution competition at the 39th Inter-University National Youth Festival (UNIFEST).
The Association of Indian Universities (AIU), New Delhi, organised the event at Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology in Chennai from March 10 to 14. Ganjir is a 4th-semester MSc (Physics) student at govt Babu Chhotelal Shrivastav PG College, Dhamtari. He competed against participants from across the country on the theme ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat: Yuvaon Ki Pahal' (Drug-Free India: Youth Initiative). His performance earned him a gold medal.
PRSU dean of student welfare Dr Rajeev Choudhary congratulated Ganjir and team manager Daneshwar Sahu, Assistant Professor at govt Girls' College, Dhamtari.
"I participated for the last 4 years. I am perhaps the 1st from Chhattisgarh to win the national-level elocution competition," Ganjir said. A resident of Kanker, Ganjir attributed his oratorical skills to his family background. He participated in Kavi Sammelans and delivered Ramayan discourses since childhood.
"My ancestors delivered Ramayan pravachan, and the interest came to me naturally," he said, explaining his penchant for Hindi despite his science background.
Ganjir represented the student parliament as the ‘chief minister of Chhattisgarh' during the Jal Jagar Mahotsav. He was also selected by the AIU for an international discussion competition. At the national level, he secured top positions in debate and discussion competitions in Karnataka and Maharashtra.
In Chhattisgarh, he secured the 1st position in the Youth Environment Parliament and participated in speech competitions organised by Nehru Yuva Kendra. Ganjir also won the 1st prize in a jingle and poetry writing competition for a voter awareness campaign organised by the Dhamtari district administration.
