BJP questions Cong on dilapidated school buildings

Raipur: The Chhattisgarh assembly on Tuesday witnessed noisy scenes over dilapidated school buildings and discrepancies in payment to the teachers in government schools of the state. During the question hours, Congress MLAs Bhubaneswar Yadav, Ramkumar Yadav and Chandan Kashyap asked education minister Premsai Singh Tekam about the dilapidated school buildings in Dogargarh. They also asked about the funds generated for providing basic facilities to the tribal students residing in residential schools in Chandrapur and the number of schools being run in Narayanpur district.

Replying to the questions, Tekam said that there were 14 schools in Dongargarh in a poorly dilapidated condition due to which the studies are being done at other buildings and these schools are without designated buildings. He said that all the buildings will be repaired before the beginning of the new academic session. However, he faced flak when state Congress president Mohan Markam and Congress MLA Amitesh Shukla also raised questions on daily wage employees and the vacant positions in the Gariaband district.Opposition BJP member Ajay Chandrakar remarked that the education department itself was in dilapidated condition while Tekam replied that he was getting repaired the education infrastructure that was destroyed by BJP during its 15-year-long regime. BJP also raised the issue of discrepancies in the payment of assistant teachers asking if any committee was constituted to resolve the issue. The minister replied that the meeting was convened and alternatives related to revenue were discussed while there was no deadline decided to resolve the matter.Unsatisfied with his reply, the BJP members created uproar alleging that the future of one lakh assistant teachers was in dark despite Congress promising to solve this issue in its manifesto. They urged the speaker to schedule a separate discussion on the matter.
