Passenger, driver die in accident near Chakan

Pune: A 27-year-old driver of a mini-truck and his co-passenger died after a container truck collided head-on with their vehicle at Mohitewadi near Chakan on the Chakan-Shikrapur highway on Wednesday evening.
The police have identified the deceased driver as Chetan Ahire (27) from Buldhana, while Ganesh Pansare (42) of Bahul in Khed taluka was the co-passenger. "Pansare runs a tailoring business and took lift in the mini-truck at Shel Pimpalgaon," an officer from the Chakan police station told TOI.
He said that the accident occurred around 4.30 pm. The container truck was driving towards Chakan from Shikrapur, while the mini-truck was coming from the opposite direction. "At Mohitewadi, the container truck collided head-on with the mini-truck. The mini-truck, owing to the impact, crashed into another four-wheeler and went off the road," the officer said.
The officer added that both Ahire and Pansare were immediately taken to a nearby hospital, where they were declared dead by the doctors. "We have detained the driver of the container truck. We are probing the case further," the officer concluded.
On Monday, a 23-year-old woman from Ambegaon died of serious head injuries after her scooter slipped and crashed into an SUV at Warje on Katraj-Dehu Road bypass.
