PUNE: Meeting of Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation(PCMC)’s standing committee was adjourned due to the verbal duel between chairman Vilas Madigeri and other members. The members alleged that Madigeri was in a hurry to approve the resolutions without discussions but the latter has refuted the allegations.
Rahul Kalate, group leader of Shiv Sena corporators, PCMC who is also a member of the committee said, “The chairman holds a pre-meeting in his office cabin before the weekly meeting where the discussions on the proposals on the agenda as well as short notice proposals are held. Members seek information about the these proposals from officials at the meeting. Later the weekly meeting is held in the meeting hall. But the meeting began at 2.30 pm without pre-meeting on directives of Madigeri.”
Kalate added, “BJP member Sagar Angholkar tabled a proposal that all 1 to 30 proposals be approved without any discussion. NCP member Mayur Kalate supported me when I objected to it. I demanded that discussion on each proposal be held and officials give information about it. But Madigeri said that they should take information about the proposals from the municipal secretary office before the meeting.”
Kalate alleged that Madigeri said that the members have only the right to say whether the proposal is approved or rejected.
So Kalate demanded to know the rights of members but municipal secretary Ulhas Jagtap refused to give information until chairman Madigeri directs him.
Kalate further alleged that the members pointed that the meeting was not being held as per rules while Madigeri vehemnetly denied it. This led to heated discussions. BJP member Sheetal Shinde demanded that the meeting be adjourned which was supported by both Kalate and other members. As a result the meeting was adjourned without conducting any business.
Madigeri while speaking to TOI said, “The meeting was being conducted as per rules. The meeting was adjourned without conducting any business after many members demanded it.”
