Pune: Five persons have been arrested for robbing six passengers, including the personal assistant to Telangana home minister, on the Hubli-Secunderabad Express train last month.

The robbery took place near Tadwal station, located on the Solapur-Bijapur line around 35km from Solapur, on May 28.

A Government Railway Police (GRP) official said the incident occurred when the train had stopped at a signal near Tadwal station. "The robbers climbed on each other's shoulders to snatch gold ornaments of Sunil Satish Tiwari, personal secretary to Naini Narsimha Reddy, home minister of Telangana, and five others from open windows," he said. The GRP put the value of stolen ornaments at Rs 2.69 lakh.

A search conducted in Solapur led to the arrest of Atul Kale (24), Chaggan Shinde (23), Raja Kale (40), Amol Pawar (24) and Rahul Kale (18) between June 1 and 8, said GRP superintendent of police Tushar Doshi.
