Bouncer held on charge of flashing woman

Pune: The Pimpri police on Sunday arrested a 43-year-old bouncer employed at a mall on the charge of flashing a 24-year-old woman while she was waiting for a bus at the BRTS stop on the Mother Teresa flyover in Chinchwad on May 21.

Senior police inspector Vijayanand Patil of the Pimpri police said the accused, Zakir Shaikh, was taken into custody from Chinchwadenagar in Chinchwad after the police checked CCTV camera footage.

Patil said that on May 21, while the complainant was waiting for a bus at the BRTS stop, the accused sat in front of her and started indulging in an obscene act. The woman shouted at him, but the man did not pay heed to her. When she started recording the act, he first tried moving towards her and then fled from the spot.

“The woman approached the police and lodged a complaint,” Patil said.

The officer said the police initially had no clue about the identity of the man. The police then started checking CCTV camera footage. “We checked over 70 CCTV footage clips and traced the accused. While on the run, he had changed his clothes. However, we identified him by the colour of his shoes and arrested him,” the officer said.

Patil said the police were verifying whether the accused had any previous criminal cases against him, Patil said.
