1 killed, 6 injured as MUV rams tree

One man died on the spot while six sustained severe injuries after a multi utility vehicle (MUV) rammed a tree at Morwadi chowk near Pimpri, on the Pune-Mumbai highway. The incident occurred around 3 am on Wednesday.

PUNE: One man died on the spot while six sustained severe injuries after a multi utility vehicle (MUV) rammed a tree at Morwadi chowk near Pimpri, on the Pune-Mumbai highway. The incident occurred around 3 am on Wednesday. The Pimpri police have identified thedeceased as Shankar Mahadev Jadhav (50) of Koparkhairane in New Mumbai. His wifeSalubai (40), son Vijay (17), relatives Vilas Saste (44), Popat Jadhav (34),Seema Maruti Jadhav, all from Koparkhairane in New Mumbai and Dasharath Korade(50) of Thane, who was driving the MUV, sustained injuries. Salubai, Korade andSaste were shifted to a private hospital in Pune and their condition iscritical. According to sub-inspector K S Kate of Pimpri policestation, after crossing the grade separator at Morwadi Chowk in Pimpri, thedriver lost control and the jeep rammed a roadside tree and overturned. Theimpact was such that Jadhav died on spot and five sustained injuries. “Allthe persons were stuck in the ill-fated vehicle. We had to call a fire brigadeto take them out,” Kate said. The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal fire brigade officer Ramdas Ghagre told TOI that after receiving the call the fire brigade team rushed to the spot. The vehicle has been totally damaged in the accident.
