Pondicherry University deputy registrar booked for duping people of Rs 40 lakh by promising jobs in Jipmer

PUDUCHERRY: The Puducherry police have booked Pondicherry University deputy registrar (public relations) K Mahesh on charges of duping several people of Rs 40 lakh after promising them nurse jobs in Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (Jipmer). Mahesh, upon learning that the police, vigilance, and anti-corruption sleuths had registered cases against him, absconded after applying for leave.

Mahesh served as a registrar on deputation at Jipmer when he reportedly received money from several people through his aide, promising jobs at the central institute. A police team has left for Bengaluru after receiving a tip-off that Mahesh is hiding at his relative’s house.

Police said Rajkumar from Govindasalai in the town limits told Muralidaran from Mangalam that he knew a top official in Jipmer who could help in getting a job as a nurse in the central institute. Muralidaran gave him Rs 5 lakh, requesting him for a nurse job for his daughter. Like Muralidaran, several others gave money to him to get the job at Jipmer.

However, Rajkumar failed to offer them the promised job and did not return their money. Muralidaran lodged a complaint with the Odiansalai police. The police registered a case against Rajkumar and arrested him. On inquiries, Rajkumar confessed to handing over about Rs 40 lakh to Mahesh, who promised to arrange nursing jobs when he served as a registrar-in-charge at Jipmer. The police booked Mahesh and launched a hunt for him.
