UltraPOD transit proposed to link key govt offices
Patna: Chief secretary Pratyaya Amrit held a meeting with an infrastructure major team, during which the company presented the operational framework for UltraPODs proposed for Patna.
The project has been described as an intra-govt smart and sustainable mobility solution intended to connect the Old Secretariat complex with nearby administrative buildings. Officials said the system would be fully ready within 15 months after administrative approval.
According to the presentation, the Personal Rapid Transit (PRT) system is planned as a fast, modern and automated mode of travel for govt officials, enabling non-stop movement between designated buildings without unscheduled halts, with the stated aim of reducing external disruptions and strengthening security arrangements.
The proposed route will cover an estimated 5 km, starting from Vishweshwaraiya Bhawan, passing through Vikas Bhawan and Vidhan Sabha, and extending up to the Old Secretariat.
The company outlined that pods would be available at stations at intervals of about seven seconds. Each pod will have seating for six passengers, and 59 pods are planned to operate on the corridor.
In the initial phase, nine stations are proposed, including two stations with parking facilities. The plan also includes one control room and one dedicated UltraPOD parking facility.
The system is planned to be fully automated with no human interference, and all pods will be equipped with cameras as part of the security setup.
