‘Seven wonders park’ in Bodh Gaya to boost tourism: DFO
Gaya: In a major boost to tourism in Bodh Gaya, a theme park “Seven wonders of the world” is being developed in an area of around 40 acres. The project, being built by environment, forest and climate change department (EFCCD) at an estimated cost of Rs21 crore at village Silaunja, near Dharmaranya vedi is expected to be completed by May end.
Divisional forest officer (DFO), Gaya division, Shashi Kant Kumar, said: “The park will feature replicas of the world’s seven iconic wonders, offering visitors a chance to experience global landmarks in one location. Among the attractions planned are scaled models of the Taj Mahal, the Great Wall of China, the Pyramids of Giza, Machu Picchu in Peru, and Petra in Jordan, among others”.
“The initiative aims to enhance Bodh Gaya’s appeal as an international tourist destination. Known primarily as a key Buddhist pilgrimage site, the addition of the theme park is expected to diversify the region’s tourism offerings,” he said.
“Apart from boosting footfall, the project is also likely to generate employment opportunities for local residents, contributing to the area’s economic development. Once completed, the park is set to become a unique attraction in eastern India, drawing both domestic and international tourists,” he said.
Detailing plans of the department in Gaya, the DFO said “The EFCCD in collaboration with the tourism department is working on tourist-centric projects, including ropeway at Gurpa hills, development at Dhungeshwari hills, establishment of nature interpretation centres and the development of trekking trails in hilly areas in and around Gaya.”
“Already the EFCCD has opened a butterfly rearing centre-cum-park at Jayaprakash Udyan, towards west of world heritage Mahabodhi Mahavihara. It is a centre of attraction for tourists and the devotees, especially, the Buddhist pilgrims visiting Bodh Gaya,” he added.
