Patna: Deputy CM-cum-home minister Samrat Choudhary on Friday said that a tender would soon be floated for the construction of the Saharsa airport and also announced that a steel plant is planned for construction in Khagaria.
Choudhary, who accompanied CM Nitish Kumar during his Samriddhi Yatra in Saharsa and Khagaria, made the announcements while addressing public meetings organised for the yatra at the Saharsa stadium ground and Khagaria Sansarpur Maidan.
“Soon, a tender will be issued for the construction of the Saharsa airport,” Choudhary said at the Saharsa stadium ground, adding that tenders have already been floated for the construction of airports at Valmikinagar in West Champaran and Birpur in Supaul.
Later, addressing the public meeting at Khagaria Sansarpur Maidan, he said that the construction of a steel plant in Khagaria district is under planning.
During his addresses, Choudhary spoke at length about the developmental transformation brought under the leadership of the CM in Saharsa and Khagaria districts since 2005. Calling himself the “son of Khagaria”, he said that Saharsa and Khagaria used to turn into islands during the rainy season as the region lacked a network of roads and bridges.
He cited statistical figures regarding the expansion of roads, improved availability of power, electricity connections to households, provision of 125 units of free electricity to 88% of domestic consumers, schemes for girl and boy students, the expansion of self-help groups (SHGs), economic activities of Jeevika Didis and the grant of Rs 10,000 each to 1.81 crore women under the Mahila Rojgar Yojana to start their own business activities.
