Patna: Police on Sunday arrested one person on the charge of killing Dr Afzal Ali of ESIC Hospital, Digha. A country-made gun and several cartridges were recovered from the possession of the arrested person, who has been identified as Shambhu Kumar. Ali was shot dead by two motorcycle-borne criminals near Digha ITI on Friday.
Patna city SP (central) Chandan Kushwaha said Ali was probably killed over a property dispute.

“The doctor had a personal enmity with Shambhu,” he added. Kushwaha said Shambhu was arrested from his Digha residence.
Shambhu told mediapersons after his arrest that he had taken an electronic goods shop at the basement of the doctor’s private nursing home on rent along with two of his associates. “The doctor locked up the shop following a dispute over rent payment. He also took our help to sell his old car and made a false promise of giving us Rs 10,000 as commission. We requested him several times to unlock the shop, but to no avail. Finally, we decided to kill him,” Shambhu said.
Kushwaha said one of Shambhu’s friends, Manoj, was also involved in the murder. “Efforts are on to arrest Manoj. Both of them have criminal antecedents,” he added.
SIT to probe attack on photojournalist’s son: Police on Sunday constituted a special investigation team (SIT) to probe the attack on Akash Dey, son of photojournalist Indrajeet Dey. City SP (central) Chandan Kushwaha said three of the four criminals involved in the attack have been identified and efforts were on to arrest them.
20-year-old Akash was shot at by four motorcycle-borne criminals in a medicine shop on
Bhootnath Road under Agamkuan police station in on Saturday. A critically injured Akash is undergoing treatment at Patna Medical College and Hospital where is condition is still critical. Many politicians, including health minister Tej Pratap Yadav, leader of opposition in state assembly Prem Kumar and others visited Akash at the hospital on Sunday.
