Nitish visits his village, pays tribute to late wife
Biharsharif: Former CM Nitish Kumar visited his ancestral village Kalyan Bigha under the Harnaut block in Nalanda district on Thursday for the first time after resigning from the post to pay homage to his late wife Manju Devi, on her 19th death anniversary.
Amid tight security, he first offered prayers at a local temple before paying floral tributes to his late wife, located inside the memorial park dedicated to his father, Vaidhraj Ram Lakhan Singh.
Nitish owns an ancestral house and some agricultural land in the village. The ancestral house, which had remained dilapidated for years, was reconstructed around two years ago. The memorial park houses the ‘samadhis’ of his parents and his late wife.
A shooting range was also established in the village. Kalyan Bigha now has a police station, a health facility and direct road connectivity to Harnaut railway station, significantly reducing the travel distance for villagers.
His son Nishant Kumar, who was recently appointed as the state health minister in the Samrat Choudhary cabinet, also accompanied him during the visit.
He later interacted with villagers who had gathered in large numbers to meet him. Several villagers submitted applications to him, citing their grievances and local problems.
State rural development and information & public relations minister Shravan Kumar, Nalanda MP Kaushalendra Kumar, Nalanda DM Kundan Kumar, SP Bharat Soni, several district and state officials, MLAs, JD(U) leaders and supporters were also present on the occasion.
