NEET student found hanging in Bhagalpur hostel room
Bhagalpur: An 18-year-old NEET student was found hanging from the ceiling fan inside her room at a private hostel in the Khanjarpur locality under Barari police station area of Bhagalpur district on Sunday night. The deceased was identified as Srishti Kumari (18), daughter of Manish Kumar Singh, a resident of Araria district. She allegedly ended her life just a few hours after shifting to a new hostel. Police have started an investigation into the case after forming a team.Barari police station SHO Bittu Kumar Kamal said an FIR was lodged by her father on Monday after the body was recovered on Sunday evening. “A police team, along with forensic science laboratory (FSL) experts, has been formed to investigate the incident. In his complaint, the deceased’s father alleged that a youth had been harassing her with obscene remarks and held him responsible for her daughter’s death,” he said.“We have seized the victim’s cellphone to retrieve more details. However, the exact cause of death will be confirmed only after the post-mortem report. Investigation is underway from all possible angles, including love affair angle if any,” the SHO said.
According to police, Srishti had cleared her Class XII examinations and was preparing for the medical entrance exam. She had shifted to the hostel around 4 pm on Sunday in the presence of her parents and close relatives. The incident came to light after some girl inmates went to her room to meet her after few hours of her shifting, but they found the door locked from inside.After repeated calls went unanswered, the hostel owner and manager, along with her cousin, who lives in Bhagalpur, were informed. The door was then broken open, and Srishti was found hanging from a bed-sheet tied to the ceiling fan. The police rushed her to Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College and Hospital (JLNMCH), where doctors declared her brought dead.The SHO said, “During preliminary inquiry, it emerged that the student had exchanged WhatsApp messages, including audio and video clips, with someone prior to the incident. These digital evidences are being examined. CCTV footage tracing her movement up to the hostel has also been recovered, in which she appears visibly uncomfortable.”
