Patna: Mayor Sita Sahu and Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) commissioner Animesh Kumar Parashar jointly launched a monthlong cleanliness programme, christened ‘Mission Chakachak Ward’, under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan from Bazaar Samiti at ward number 47 here on Tuesday. The mayor made an appeal to the residents to keep the city clean so that the overall ranking of Patna could improve in Swachh Survekshan 2023.
With the launch of the special programme, “chakachak” centres have become operational in all the 75 wards of the civic body. Under this programme, all the stakeholders of the PMC will work round-the-clock to keep the city clean, spread awareness among people regarding solid waste management and seek their cooperation in ensuring segregation of solid and wet garbage.
The mayor said the star rating of a garbage-free city and water plus tag would help the city fetch good score and rank among all the urban local bodies in the country. “A central team will assess our work,” Sahu said.
She asked the sanitation workers and ward councillors to ensure that litter bins (each of 20 litres) are placed at commercial places, parks, construction sites, public areas, chowks and chourahas to ensure that people do not dump the garbage on roads or streets. “We need public participation in keeping the city clean as the civic body cannot perform this herculean task alone. Everyone will have to do their bit for Swachh Survekshan,” Sahu said.
The mayor also instructed the officials concerned to utilize the scraps and continue with its waste-to-wonder project. “Ward councillors should identify parks, small areas and even garbage vulnerable points, which have been freed from litters, to convert them into waste-to-wonder park. “Make furniture like benches and chairs for parks by using tyres, drums and flowering pots from plastic materials and tins. It will not only reduce the waste but also give the identified locations a new look,” she said.
