Man lynched after firing at wife, son in Nalanda
Biharsharif: A 30-year-old man was lynched by villagers after he allegedly opened fire at his wife and young son near the Kaithwan railway crossing in Sheikhpura village under Sirari police station area of Nalanda district on Thursday.
According to police, the incident occurred when Pratima Devi was travelling in an autorickshaw with her son and a relative. Her husband, Deepak Thakur, allegedly intercepted the vehicle near the railway crossing and fired at them. Both Pratima and her son sustained serious injuries. Villagers overpowered Deepak and thrashed him before handing him over to police. He was taken to Sadar hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Doctors at Sheikhpura Sadar hospital referred Pratima and her son to Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) after providing initial treatment, citing their critical condition. Police recovered a pistol and an empty cartridge from the spot. Deepak was a native of Milki Sultanpur village in Warsaliganj area of Nawada district.
Family members alleged that the couple had been facing marital discord for several years over dowry-related issues. They claimed Deepak had attacked Pratima with an iron tool around six months ago, following which she filed a case of dowry harassment and attempt to murder against him. He had recently been released after spending nearly three months in jail.
Sheikhpura superintendent of police Baliram Kumar Choudhary visited the hospital and said the matter is under investigation.
