Increase quota limit to 85%: RJD MLAs
Patna: RJD MLAs created an uproar in the legislative assembly on Wednesday, demanding that the reservation limit be increased to 85%. MLA Ranvijay Sahu moved an adjournment motion on the issue, which Speaker Prem Kumar rejected.
Sahu said the caste survey report had been released during the Grand Alliance govt in Bihar and both Houses had resolved to increase reservation in jobs to 65%. However, he alleged that the central govt did not include it in the Ninth Schedule of the Constitution, due to which the matter remains pending.
After the Speaker rejected the motion, opposition MLAs rushed into the Well of the House and raised slogans such as “Down with the anti-reservation govt”.
Transportation of bodies: Deputy CM Samrat Choudhary said the govt may consider revising the existing policy for transporting the bodies of migrant workers to their native places. At present, the provision applies only in cases of accidental death. He intervened while minister Sanjay Singh Tiger was replying to a related question raised by All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) MLA Akhtarul Iman.
The minister said the state govt bears the cost of transporting the bodies of migrant workers from Bihar in cases of accidental death. The provision does not extend to natural deaths outside the state or abroad. He added that Rs 2.5 lakh has been spent on transporting bodies in the current financial year.
Road over embankments: Replying to Shailesh Kumar Mandal, also known as Bulo Mandal, water resources department and parliamentary affairs minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary said he indeed shares a “special relationship” with part of the Gopalpur Assembly constituency, but stressed that the govt functions on policy, not personal ties. The MLA had demanded construction of a paved road from Jahanvi Chowk to Tintanga Dam in Naugachhia subdivision.
In a lighter moment, the Speaker described it as an internal matter when an opposition MLA referred to the “special relationship”.
The minister said the department’s mandate permits construction of motorable roads on embankments strictly for departmental use, adding that he would welcome any other department undertaking such work.
After the Speaker rejected the motion, opposition MLAs rushed into the Well of the House and raised slogans such as “Down with the anti-reservation govt”.
