Gaya MLA raises civic problems

GAYA: A delegation led by former state minister and Gaya town MLA Prem Kumar met deputy development commissioner, who is also in-charge of municipal commissioner, Vinod Duhan, on Thursday. He apprised him of several civic problems and sought their immediate solution.

Kumar, in a press statement, said, “Garbage is being dumped by Gaya municipal corporation in front of Haridas Seminary school, towards southern end of Gandhi Maidan. The foul smell emanating from the heap of garbage is causing great inconvenience to the people living in nearby areas and passers-by as well.”

He said, “Many drains are open, which invite diseases like dengue and chikungunya. Fogging and spraying have been done on selected main roads for two-three days, but residents claim that chemical used in spray was found to be expired.”

He further said the crematorium built in ‘muktidham’ at the cost of Rs five crore was not fully functional.

The river ghats along Kharkai and Subarnarekha rivers in Jamshedpur are looking dirty and littered with garbage after the festive season. Civic bodies clean the ghats before Durga Puja and Chhath Puja, but neglect them afterward. The rivers are the lifelines of the city and the drinking water supply is dependent on them. Many devotees dump items used after worship and idols in the rivers, which pollutes the water body. Pollution from untreated garbage and industries has caused the death of fish in the rivers.
