Gaya doctor alleges extortion threat, wife disputes claim
Gaya: An allegation of extortion threats made by a senior doctor at Anugrah Narain Magadh Medical College Hospital (ANMMCH) has taken an unexpected turn with his wife disputing key aspects of the complaint and raising allegations of her own, prompting police to examine all angles.Dr Satendra Kumar, professor and head of the neurosurgery department at the hospital, alleged that his wife, Vibha Kumari, received two extortion calls demanding Rs 1 crore with the caller threatening to kill her if the demand was not met. According to his complaint, the first call was received on Dec 27, 2025, followed by a second call on Dec 31, 2025.

Questioned about the delay in lodging the complaint and why it was not filed by his wife, who allegedly received the calls, Dr Kumar said he acted on her behalf. “I did not want my wife to be exposed to the police and the court, and therefore I made the complaint myself,” he said. He added that the delay occurred because “the police wanted the original complaint to be amended”.Vibha Kumari, who is a medical graduate but currently a homemaker, gave a sharply different version when contacted. She alleged that her husband was restricting her movements after she came across “objectionable chats” between him and a woman paramedical staff member.
“My husband is not allowing me to step out of the house and my voice is being gagged,” she alleged. She said she was not certain but suspected that the woman paramedical staff member “may be behind the threat or extortion call”. She also pointed to a property dispute involving her husband in the Gewalbigha locality of the town as another possible angle. “The chats between my husband and the woman were objectionable and intimate,” she claimed.Dr Kumar, however, denied any impropriety and said his wife had misunderstood the situation. “It was a normal professional interaction between a doctor and a paramedical staff. Nothing more should be read into it,” he said, adding that “reality will ultimately dawn on my wife”.Confirming that a case has been registered, Krishna Kumar, SHO of Magadh Medical College police station, said the matter was under investigation. “The probe will be conducted from all angles, including the doctor–paramedical staff relationship and the property dispute,” he said, adding that it would be premature to comment further at this stage.Dr K K Sinha, superintendent of ANMMCH, said the head of the neurosurgery department “has so far not informed the hospital authorities about any such development”.
