Four arrested for killing man during wedding dance in Nalanda
Patna: Four people, including a minor, were arrested in Nalanda district on Thursday for allegedly beating a man to death during a dance at a wedding ceremony. The incident occurred late Wednesday night in Nadiyona village under Dipnagar police station area.
The victim, 49-year-old Upendra Manjhi, a resident of the same village, was allegedly attacked with sticks and an axe following a dispute over touching a woman while dancing.
According to police, the altercation began when Upendra accidentally touched the daughter-in-law of an accused while dancing to DJ music at the wedding. A heated exchange followed, after which Upendra returned home. However, the accused and around 15 others allegedly followed him, dragged him out and assaulted him with sticks and an axe, causing severe head injuries.
Police said that when he managed to escape and ran towards a nearby river, the attackers chased him and allegedly killed him by repeatedly striking him with sticks and rods.
The victim’s son said, “A wedding procession of Ashok Manjhi’s son arrived in the village after returning from a religious ceremony. Music was playing there. His father came from the wedding procession and, after parking his bike at home, went to dance. While dancing to the DJ’s music, he accidentally touched the daughter-in-law of Harimuni.”
Dipnagar SHO Rajmani said police acted swiftly after receiving information and arrested the main accused along with his three sons and another minor.
“Police handed over the body to family members after the post-mortem. Currently, the situation in the village is under control. Police are conducting a thorough investigation into all aspects. Raids are being conducted to arrest other accused,” the SHO added.
