Patna: The five-day maiden session of the 18th Bihar legislative assembly will commence on Dec 1 and new Speaker will be elected on Dec 2, an official said on Tuesday.
As per the schedule approved by the governor, the newly elected members of the 18th Bihar assembly would be administered oath of office by the pro-tem Speaker
Narendra Narayan Yadav during its inaugural session on Dec 1.
Yadav, a senior JD(U) leader and a several-term MLA, was appointed as the pro-tem Speaker by governor Arif Mohammed Khan on Monday. He was deputy Speaker in the 17th assembly.
On Dec 3, the governor will address the joint session of both houses of the Bihar legislature in the central hall of the assembly. The second supplementary budget of the state govt would also be tabled on the same day.
On Dec 4, there will be a debate and the govt’s reply on the governor’s address.
On the concluding day on Dec 5, there will be debate on the second supplementary budget.
Sources said senior BJP leader Prem Kumar, the ninth time MLA from Gaya Town, has emerged as a front-runner for the post of Speaker. He will be the NDA candidate for the Speaker post. If the opposition does not field its own candidate, Prem may be elected unopposed for the post of Speaker.
