Family legacy being destroyed by ‘our own’, says Lalu's daughter Rohini
Patna: RJD chief Lalu Prasad’s daughter Rohini Acharya on Saturday once again took veiled potshots at her brother Tejashwi Prasad Yadav and his close aides, blaming them for what she described as the destruction of a hard-earned family legacy, indicating that the internal conflict within the Lalu family remains unresolved.
Rohini, who is based in Singapore, had revolted and left her parental home in Patna in Nov last year following the RJD’s disastrous performance in the Bihar assembly elections. The poll setback had triggered bitter verbal exchanges between her and Tejashwi.
In a social media post on Saturday, she expressed shock that “our own” were attempting to erase the contributions of those who built the family’s political legacy. Without naming anyone, she wrote, “There is no need for outsiders to destroy the great legacy that was created and established with great effort… our loved ones are enough for that. ‘Newly made own’ and ‘our own’ are more than enough.”
She followed it up with another cryptic remark, saying, “When arrogance takes over, destructive forces become the eyes, nose and ears… such forces control a person's thinking and judgement. It happens when the veil falls over wisdom.” Rohini had earlier donated her kidney to her father.
The fresh attack came a day after a Delhi court ordered the framing of charges against Lalu Prasad, his wife Rabri Devi and other family members, including Tejashwi. The family has also been under sustained political attack from NDA leaders.
Reacting to Rohini’s remarks, JD(U) spokesperson Neeraj Kumar termed them “very serious” and said that despite political differences with her, her concerns could not be dismissed. “Rohini saved her father's life by donating her kidney without caring about her own children and has serious concern for her family, but Tejashwi was found in the company of a history-sheeter. Shouldn't she be worried? Her post explains only that,” he said.
Earlier this week, Rohini had posted photographs of herself holding a gun, widely interpreted as a message aimed at her “rivals”, though she again refrained from naming anyone. “Sahi galat pahchanane ki nazar bhi durust hai aur nishana bhi (The ability to discern right from wrong is accurate, as is the aim),” she wrote in a post on Tuesday.
She had hit national headlines in Nov last year when she announced she was quitting politics and “disowning” her family after a public fallout with her brother. “I’m quitting politics and I’m disowning my family … This is what Sanjay Yadav and Rameez asked me to do … and I’m taking all the blame,” she said in an X post on Nov 15, following the RJD’s electoral rout.
