Begusarai: A 35-year-old woman was allegedly murdered by her husband at Korai village under Garhpura police station area of Begusarai district on Thursday. The victim, identified as Gayatri Devi, died on the spot after her throat was slit with a sharp knife. She is survived by five children.
Bakhri SDPO Kundan Kumar said the body has been sent for postmortem and the knife used in the crime has been seized. Police have launched a detailed investigation into the incident.
According to locals, the accused, Amit Pandit, had returned home in an inebriated condition and got into an argument with his wife. The situation escalated, and in a fit of rage, he allegedly attacked her with a knife kept in the house.
After the incident, Amit fled and hid in a nearby sugarcane field. However, villagers chased and overpowered him before handing him over to the police. Further investigation is underway.
