Doctors' family held at gunpoint, valuables worth Rs 5lakh looted
Five armed robbers stormed a doctor's Patna residence late Thursday, holding his family hostage and fleeing with valuables exceeding Rs5 lakh. The assailants, arriving in an SUV, first subdued the doctor's elderly parents, inflicting injuries before confronting the neurosurgeon and his microbiologist wife. CCTV footage has captured four suspects, and police are actively pursuing leads.
Patna: Over five robbers entered the residence of a doctor of a reputed private hospital in Agamkuan police station area, took the family members hostage, and escaped with jewellery, cash, and other valuables worth over Rs5 lakh, late on Thursday night. A complaint in this regard was registered at the Agamkuan police station on Friday.Dr Himanshu Kumar, a neurosurgeon, and his wife, Dr Subi Sharan, a microbiologist, said: “The attackers escaped with gold and diamond jewellery worth around Rs5 lakh that Dr Sharan was wearing.”

According to the family members, the incident occurred at around 2am. Over five armed criminals arrived in an SUV, scaled the boundary wall, and entered the house. They first broke into the ground-floor room of Dr Kumar’s parents, Sharda Devi and Indradeo Prasad, and held them hostage at gunpoint. When the couple resisted, the assailants beat them up severely, striking them with a pistol butt and causing serious injuries.Indradeo suffered injuries near his teeth, while Sharda Devi sustained a shoulder injury.Hearing the parents’ screams, the doctor couple came downstairs and they were also held hostage at gunpoint.
The assailants then snatched Dr Sharan’s jewellery and escaped. The injured parents were admitted to a hospital for treatment. Agamkuan police reached the spot after being informed and began an investigation.Agamkuan SHO Neeraj Kumar Pandey said, “Four suspects were clearly captured on the home’s CCTV cameras. Forensic and dog squad teams collected evidence from the crime scene. Police are conducting raids to identify and arrest those involved.”
