DM reviews preparations for Bihar Diwas
Patna: District magistrate (DM) Thiyagrajan S M on Sunday reviewed preparations at Gandhi Maidan and directed officials to ensure flawless arrangements for the upcoming Bihar Diwas celebrations, which will be held on a grand scale from March 22 to 24.
The DM emphasised that the historic Gandhi Maidan will host multiple events to mark Bihar Diwas, drawing a large number of visitors. “Proper traffic management will be ensured at the venue and surrounding areas, along with crowd control measures as per standard protocols. Magistrates and police officers will be deployed accordingly. Maintaining law and order remains the administration’s top priority, and all officials will stay vigilant and prepared,” he said.
The district administration has formed nine dedicated teams, which are continuously monitoring the preparations. The three-day event, scheduled from March 22 to 24, will showcase various programmes highlighting the govt’s developmental and public welfare schemes. The DM appealed to all residents to participate enthusiastically.
Thiyagrajan directed officials to ensure seamless interdepartmental coordination and perfect execution of all arrangements. During his inspection, he reviewed the layout plan, construction of stalls and pavilions, and other components, issuing necessary instructions. He inspected key aspects including lighting, traffic management, law and order, barricading, power supply, public address systems, drinking water, medical arrangements, and fire safety measures.
“A control room, temporary police station, and help desks have been set up, and CCTV surveillance is in place. Ambulances and medical teams with required resources will be available. The municipal corporation will oversee cleanliness, fogging, and spraying, while the public health engineering department (PHED) will provide sufficient water ATMs and tankers. Toilets and fire brigade units will also be stationed,” the DM said.
He instructed the electricity department to ensure proper lighting, including high-mast, decorative, pole, and park lights around the Gandhi statue. Technicians and engineers will be deployed at key points to maintain uninterrupted illumination.
The DM asked the building construction department’s executive engineer to ensure greasing of all gates for smooth and unobstructed crowd movement. He also directed that the entire Maidan be levelled properly, and all barricades, pandals, and stages be structurally sound.
For enhanced security, round-the-clock CCTV monitoring will be ensured. Patna Smart City Limited has installed 128 cameras—61 fixed bullet, 22 PTZ, and 45 analytic—of which 49 cover the perimeter and 79 are positioned inside the Maidan. Oversight will be conducted through the Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC).
To ensure public safety and convenience, strict instructions were issued for effective crowd management, smooth traffic flow, and maintenance of law and order. Authorities were asked to prepare detailed traffic, parking, and public movement maps, supported by widespread publicity to guide visitors.
