PATNA: The state government will look into the allegation levelled by ace kabaddi player Smita Kumari against the secretary of State Kabaddi Association, Vijay Kumar. She has alleged that Kumar had demanded commission from her prize money that runs into several lakhs.
Reacting to TOI report that appeared on Thursday with the headline ‘Disgusted golden girl to quit kabaddi’, state sports minister Sukhda Pandey decided to call Vijay kumar and Smita Kumari together for reconciliation between the two.
“I will ask both the player and the association secretary to come together within a week for mutual understanding in the larger interest of the sport,” she told TOI.
Having undergone humiliation, Smita is ready to quit the game for ever. Other players like Prashna Prashant and Vivek Kumar, who had already bid adieu to the sports, have also levelled charges of demanding money against the secretary.
“The state government is committed towards promoting sports and is always ready to protect the interests of players,” she added. “But sports associations are not governed by us. Neither are we part of the selection committee. Still, in the larger interest of the game, I will try my best for rapprochement,” the minister added.
Vijay Kumar, while replying to TOI’s query, dubbed the allegations as false and fabricated.
