3 held in gang rape and murder of woman in Nawada
Patna: With the arrest of three accused, including a minor boy, Nawada Police on Thursday claimed to have solved the gang rape and murder of a 47-year-old woman whose naked body was found in a field on Feb 16. The accused allegedly raped her, hit her on the head with a farming tool, and strangled her with a saree, police said.
According to the police, the woman was working in her field when the accused — Dilip Yadav, Ramswaroop Rajvansi, and a minor — attacked her. After the assault, they killed her. The family lodged a complaint at the local police station late on Feb 16 after the body was found in the field.
Nawada SP Abhinav Dhiman formed a special investigation team (SIT), which arrested two accused. “A named FIR was registered against five persons, of whom two have been arrested. The minor’s medical examination was also conducted on Thursday.”
The deceased’s elder son said, “On the evening of Feb 16, my mother was working in the field. We three siblings were also with her. When it got dark, she sent us home, saying she would return in an hour.”
SP Dhiman said a spade with bloodstains was found about 20 metres from the spot. The FSL team collected blood samples and other crucial evidence. Dilip’s fingerprints matched those found on the spade, and he confessed to raping the woman. The farming tool used in the murder, the saree used for strangulation, slippers, and the woman’s mangalsutra were also recovered from the area.
Dhiman added that Dilip confessed during interrogation that the murder was linked to an old land dispute.
