Buxar: Three-day college-level sports, cultural, and literary festival ‘Umang 26’ was inaugurated at the Govt Engineering College (GEC), Buxar, on Saturday. Organised by the department of science, technology, and technical education, Patna, the festival will continue till January 12 with active participation from students and faculty members.The inauguration ceremony was graced by Alok Vats, district sports officer, and Ravi Bahadur, district art and culture officer, as chief guests. They lauded the enthusiasm and talent of the students, emphasising that such activities play a vital role in the overall personality development of young learners.

The programme began with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by principal Ram Naresh Rai, accompanied by guests and faculty members Anjani Kumar Tiwari, Shyam Lal Verma, and R N Yadav. Later, the guests and the principal inaugurated the sports events at the college playground by cutting the ribbon and flagging off a cricket match, marking the formal start of the competitions.The sports segment features cricket, volleyball, badminton, kabaddi, athletics, chess, and carrom. Friendly matches between students and faculty members have also been organized, fostering camaraderie and teamwork on campus.
The college’s literature club is hosting various competitions, including debate, speech, poetry recitation, quiz, and essay writing, providing students a platform to showcase creativity and critical thinking skills.Cultural performances added vibrancy to the occasion. Aditi and Anjali presented captivating dance numbers, while Raunak Kumar and Ashish Kumar impressed the audience with their singing. The programme was smoothly anchored by Ankit Kumar and Khushi Kumari.Addressing the gathering, Principal Ram Naresh Rai said that sports, cultural, and literary activities are essential for the holistic development of students. He added that ‘Umang 26’ reflects the institution’s vibrant academic and co-curricular culture.Faculty members Shyam Lal Verma and R N Yadav also highlighted the importance of such events in promoting discipline, confidence, leadership, and sportsmanship among students.
