Indiana University football coach Curt Cignetti is known for being calm and serious on the field. But once the game ends, family comes first. His story starts at the top, with a deep love for football and lessons passed down at home. Curt did not learn the game by accident. He grew up watching his father coach, lead, and demand high standards. That mindset still guides him today at Indiana University. When Curt was hired, he made it clear he would not change how he thinks about winning.“First of all, my dad would be really mad at some of the things I said when I got hired,” Curt told Indy Star in November 2024. “I thought this situation was a clash of two worlds. One used to winning, and winning championships, and another where people thought it was impossible. I wasn’t going to lower my expectations and standards.”Curt’s confidence became national news after a 2023 interview about recruiting, when he said, “I win, Google me.” The words were bold. The results backed them up. Indiana finished the 2025 season with a perfect 14–0 record.Still, Curt Cignetti says his father would have corrected him.
“I’d have got chastised for that,” Curt told Indy Star. “But my dad was a confident guy. He was very confident.” That confidence runs through the entire Cignetti family.

He later became the long-time head coach at Indiana University of Pennsylvania from 1986 to 2005.Frank Sr. earned national respect for his work and was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2013. He passed away in September 2022 at age 84. Curt shared the news on X, writing, “I was blessed to have a great Dad! He inspired me and so many others. Love you Dad! Rest in peace.”Football also shaped Curt’s brother, Frank Cignetti Jr.. He began coaching at IUP under his father. He later worked in the NFL with the Kansas City Chiefs and New Orleans Saints. Over the years, he coached at Fresno State, North Carolina, California, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, Boston College, and several NFL teams. Since 2025, he has been the offensive coordinator at IUP.At home, Curt is supported by his wife, Manette Cignetti. The two married in May 1989 after meeting in Indiana, Pennsylvania. Manette told IndyStar in October 2024, “We were doing a long distance keep in touch. Then I went to visit him for Halloween, and he asked me to marry him.”She also praised Curt Cignetti as a leader. “He’s super organized. He’s everything I’m not,” she said. “He leads by example. He has great integrity.
