26-year-old pregnant woman found dead in Ghaziabad; husband missing
GHAZIABAD: Police recovered the body of a 26-year-old woman from her rented house in Khoda Colony on Monday evening. The woman was four months pregnant, an officer said.
The deceased was identified as Chandini Kewat. Police said she died by hanging herself in the room. The rope later snapped, causing her to fall to the floor and suffer head injuries.
Abhishek Srivastava, ACP (Indirapuram), said the incident is believed to have occurred on Sunday. Chandini's 1.5-year-old son remained in the room with her body for over 24 hours, while her husband stayed there for some time after the incident before fleeing.
A senior police officer said Chandini had married Vipin Kewat (27), a daily wage labourer, about three years ago. The couple had been living in the rented accommodation for the past 15 days.
On Monday evening, Vipin's brother came to the house and opened the door. On seeing the body, he ran away. This alerted the landlord, who then discovered the body and informed the police. Chandini's child was found crying near the body.Preliminary inquiry revealed that Vipin had left the room a few hours before the body was discovered and has since been absconding.
Based on a complaint by Chandini's father , a case has been registered at Khoda police station against Vipin and nine of his family members under sections 80(2) (dowry death) and 85 (cruelty by a husband or his relatives towards a woman) of the BNS and the sections of the Dowry Prohibition Act. Teams have been formed to trace the accused, police said.
