NOIDA: A North East Handicrafts Fair will be held from August 26 to September 11 at Noida Haat. Artists and weavers from eight states including Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya,
Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura and Sikkim, have been invited to showcase their craft, food, culture, tourism and tradition.
The 17-day fair, from 11 am to 8 pm, is being organised in collaboration with the Ministry of Development of the North Eastern Region (MDoNER), development commissioner handicraft, the National Design Centre, Ministry of Textiles and the North East state government department.
“People of Noida and NCR region will get a glimpse of North East India as artists from eight states will be displaying their handicrafts, food, culture, tradition along with tourism information,” said
Mukesh Sharma, director of Noida Haat.
From tribal to traditional jewellery, wooden utensils, handloom, tea from Assam and pickles will be on display. Organic food like honey, local spices, and Manipur’s famous elephant chillies will be the highlight.
Mizoram’s bamboo wares, baskets, handmade clothes and toys, Nagaland’s shawls, leather goods, Tripura’s handicrafts, furniture, silver jewellery, silk carpets and paintings from the North East will be available at the fair too.
Along with this, the festival will also give you a taste of local cuisine as all eight states will set up their delicacies at the food stalls. You can look forward to relishing some kharji, momo, omita kharr, jaidoh, kelly chana, panch foron tarkari (vegetables made from five spices), chakhvi and thukpa. The evenings will see cultural programs including traditional dances.
