Ghaziabad: On Nov 4 last year, eight members of a gang that allegedly smuggled illegal cough syrup were arrested. The operation was uncovered by head constable Veer Singh when three others were arrested in Sonbhadra for smuggling illegal cough syrup worth Rs 3 crore a month ago. The cough syrup contains codeine, which falls under the category of narcotic drugs. On Monday, Singh received the DG Disc Platinum medal for the investigation into the racket.
He was among 17 police officers, including an IPS officer, who received DGP medals from UP cabinet minister Sunil Sharma, who was the chief guest at the 77th Republic Day event at Ghaziabad Police Line. Deepthi Chowhan, an IPS officer of the 2023 batch, led the parade. She was undergoing IPS training in the city.
SHO of Sihani Gate Kuldeep Dixit also received DG Disc Platinum medal for an encounter in which a 23-year-old criminal was killed during Dixit's posting in Agra in May 2025. Aman Kumar, a resident of Jagdishpura in Agra, and his associates had killed Yogesh Chaudhary, owner of Balaji Jewellers located at Kargil Crossing, during a robbery at his showroom on May 2.
Trans-Hindon DCP Nimish Patil was awarded the DG Disc Silver medal. Other officers included SHO of Indirapuram Ravendra Gautam; five sub-inspectors — Naveen Kumar, Pooran Singh, Bobby Singh, Surajbhan Singh and Brijesh Kumar; six head constables — Jaswant Kumar, Sunil Kumar, Devendra Pawar, Deepak Singh, Krishna Kumar and Tarun Kumar; and two constables, Prashant Kumar and Manjeet Kumar.
In Noida, DG Disc Gold — Shaurya — medal was given to deputy commissioner of police (headquarters) Ravi Shankar Nim and ACP Deeksha Singh.
Jaswant Saini, chief guest and UP minister of state for parliamentary affairs, hoisted the national flag. The ceremonial parade was welcomed under the leadership of first parade commander Diksha Bhoria, assistant commissioner of police, second parade commander Shakeel Ahmed, assistant police commissioner and third parade commander, Nekram Singh.
DG Disc Silver — Shaurya — medal was awarded to inspector Munendra Singh; sub inspectors Ankur Singh Rana, Lalit Kumar and Sushil Kumar; computer operator Dharmendra Kumar Singh; and head constables Akash Malik, Ashish Kumar, Ashish Baliyan, Guddu Panwar and constables Amit Kumar, Rajeev and Sumit Kumar.
Commissioner Laxmi Singh announced a cash reward and reward leave for the officers and employees who participated in the grand parade demonstration at Police Lines, Surajpur. Rs 5,100 will be given to each platoon commander and Rs 5,100 to each parade commander. Every policeman participating in the parade will be given three days' reward leave on the occasion of the grand parade.
