continues to send

shockwaves across

the city, with a 40-year-old

man found dead

in the

Panchavati area

on Wednesday morning.

The deceased has been identified as Arun Barve, a resident of Snehal Park in

Uday Colony

near Bacchav Hospital. Barve worked as a health worker with the Nashik Municipal Corporation’s (NMC) west division.

The body of the deceased was found floating on the Godavari river water in the Koshire Mala area at 11am on Wednesday. Soon after getting information, Panchavati police rushed to the incident spot and fished the body out.

Barve’s body had wounds on the back, head, stomach and the left hand. After searching the area near the riverbanks, police found a charred pair of glasses, a cellphone cover and bloodstains after which the identity of the deceased was revealed.

Panchavati police said that an attempt was made to set the body on fire after Barve was murdered. According to reports, he also runs a restaurant in the Dwarka area. Police are yet to identify the murderers.

This is the second such murder to rock the city in less than a month. On May 18, Kiran Nikam (35) was murdered in the Panchavati area. In connection to the same case, a 16-year-old boy was murdered in the Upnagar area a few days ago. A woman was also found killed in an apartment by her boyfriend in the Jail Road area earlier. There was also another woman murdered recently, whose body was found near Eklahara on Tuesday morning.
