Nashik ZP spends ₹101 crore on MGNREGA works
Nashik: The Nashik zilla parishad (ZP) for the first time crossed the Rs 100-crore-mark by spending Rs 101 crore for MGNREGA works during the financial year 2022-23.“The Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) helps individual as well as public works through funds made available by the Centre. The Nashik ZP thus carried out infrastructure work worth Rs 101 crore in the interest of the people,” Nashik ZP CEO Ashima Mittal said. While Nashik ZP tops the division for spending on MGNREGA, Jalgaon ZP is second with works amounting to Rs 96 crore followed by Ahmednagar (Rs 87 crore), Nandurbar (Rs 69 crore) and Dhule (Rs 36 crore).“All the departments concerned — agriculture, rural development, water conservation, soil conservation, among others — worked together and generated 27.22 lakh man days helping the farmers, workers (unskilled and semi-skilled) to earn a living and at the same time build infrastructure for themselves and for the village,” Ravindra Pardeshi, ZP’s deputy chief executive officer, said. Through the various works carried out, farmers got paid to work in their own farms — like digging of wells or carrying out bunding and other works. “Through Mission Bhagirath Prayas, the ZP has planned construction of 622 concrete weirs in 199 villages that face water scarcity. Since construction of concrete works falls in skilled works and 60% of the MGNREGA funds are reserved for unskilled workers, a package of sort was formed for grampanchayats,” the officer said.
