Nashik civic body to permanently shift private buses from Mumbai Naka, Dwarka to Tapovan
Nashik: In a move aimed at decongesting two of the city's busiest transit points, the civic body has decided to permanently shift private tour and travel buses operating from Mumbai Naka and Dwarka to Tapovan, where a dedicated parking facility is being developed. The decision comes as part of a long-term traffic management plan and ongoing infrastructure upgrades ahead of the Simhastha Kumbh Mela in 2027, including underpass construction and road widening at Dwarka Circle."Private buses from Dwarka have already been shifted to Tapovan, where space has been provided for parking. We are now in the process of shifting buses from Mumbai Naka as well," an official of Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) said. The civic body is developing a dedicated facility at Tapovan with basic amenities and infrastructure for bus operators. It also plans to levy parking charges to regulate bus movement and improve traffic discipline in the city. The move is expected to significantly reduce vehicular congestion at Mumbai Naka and Dwarka, both key traffic junctions that regularly witness heavy flow of vehicles. In parallel, the NMC is working on a broader plan to streamline the movement of heavy vehicles by developing three truck terminus projects across the city. These facilities will provide designated parking spaces for trucks and containers entering industrial and commercial areas for loading and unloading. One such project at Adgaon is already in the pipeline. The civic body has finalised a private agency through a tender process to develop the terminus at an estimated cost of Rs 150 crore on a public-private partnership (PPP) basis. Work is expected to begin soon, with completion targeted ahead of the Kumbh Mela.Additional truck termini are also planned at Chehedi and Pathardi. Officials said these facilities will help divert heavy vehicle traffic away from city roads and create organised parking infrastructure, thereby improving overall traffic flow in Nashik.
