Nashik: Senior NCP politician and state minister for food and civil supplies,
Chhagan Bhujbal, said on Sunday that every political party aspires to see its leader become the chief minister, and added that there are currently no discussions, from either side, on a merger of the two NCP factions of NCP.
Speaking to reporters in Nashik, Bhujbal expressed his support for Sunetra Pawar to hold the state's top post, noting that several states have been successfully led by women. On the comments made by Aditi Tatkare regarding Sunetra Pawar, Bhujbal said, "It is natural to want one's leader to progress. For Sunetra Pawar to reach that position, consistent efforts are required, though it might take five to 10 years. This does not imply a rebellion, but rather a focused ambition."He said it will not be surprising to see the Pawar family support Sunetra Pawar in upcoming byelections given their close ties.Bhujbal also spoke on the Maratha reservation protests and said govt withdrew 800 out of 1,500 cases. On the remaining cases, he said, "There could have been law and order situations and, hence, they have not been withdrawn so far."Addressing recent incidents at an IT company in Nashik, where women were sexually harassed and religious sentiments were hurt, Bhujbal warned against sensationalism."The police have taken steps in the issue. Govt is doing its job. It of course does not mean that all companies do the same. Excessive negative discussion could drive away existing companies and deter new investments," said Bhujbal.
