Nashik: The city police's anti-narcotics squad, acting on a specific tip-off, arrested a 25-year-old delivery agent from Chetna Nagar, near Indiranagar, for possession of illegal substances.
During a raid carried out at the suspect's residence on Tuesday, the police team recovered seven grams of mephedrone (MD) valued at approximately Rs35,000. This successful operation was notably aided by the department's new sniffer dog, Jack, who helped locate the hidden narcotics.
The crackdown was conducted under the guidance of police commissioner Sandeep Karnik as part of an ongoing initiative to identify and arrest drug peddlers across the city.
On Feb 17, senior inspector Sushila Kolhe of the anti-narcotics unit received information that a person identified as Vaibhav Avhad, a resident of Chetnanagar under the jurisdiction of Indiranagar police station, stored MD in his house for the purpose of sale. Acting on the information, the anti-narcotics unit formed a team and raided Avhad's house on Tuesday evening.
While checking the house with the help of Jack, the police located 7g of MD. "Avhad works as a food delivery person. The police are investigating the case to find out where Avhad procured the drug and where he was selling it," a police officer said.
