Amravati: The Amravati Municipal Corporation (AMC) on Monday approved an ₹876 crore budget for 2026-27, with a focus on development projects and infrastructure upgrades. The budget, passed with minor amendments, includes a threefold increase in ward development funds, aiming to boost local development without imposing new taxes.However, the opposition raised concerns over the allocation of funds, particularly for the western area, claiming it was insufficient. MIM councillors demanded a special fund for the region's development, sparking a heated debate.Criticism was also leveled at the administration over alleged corruption in sanitation projects and high electricity expenses. Councillors urged the administration to explore solar energy options and address GST compensation issues.Despite the budget allocation, Amravati faces challenges like inadequate infrastructure, water scarcity, and malnutrition issues. The district is known for malnutrition, and efforts are being made to address it.
