‘Resume kerosene supply in urban areas’

Nagpur: Kerosene distribution in cities should be restored to help citizens struggling to manage daily cooking needs due to a severe shortage of domestic LPG cylinders, demanded office-bearers of All Maharashtra Fair Price Shopkeepers' Federation.

The organisation has submitted a formal representation to Chhagan Bhujbal, minister for Food, Civil Supplies. According to the memorandum, people are currently facing a waiting period of 25 to 30 days for LPG cylinders, with many failing to receive refills on time. This delay has caused significant inconvenience, especially for households that rely solely on LPG for cooking.




With firewood unavailable in most urban localities, preparing meals has become increasingly difficult. The federation stated that long queues and scuffles are now being reported at various LPG distribution centres as residents scramble to secure their cylinders.

While demands for restarting kerosene allocation in rural areas are already under consideration, the federation has urged the govt to extend the same relief to urban residents as well.

Highlighting the growing distress in cities, federation office-bearers Sanjay Patil, Dinesh Tanave and Saiyyad Mustaq have appealed to the govt to resume kerosene supply in urban areas on an urgent basis.

They emphasised that kerosene distribution would act as an essential temporary alternative until the LPG supply stabilises, thereby easing the burden on households currently facing unprecedented hardships.
