Relief showers, gusty winds bring respite to Nagpur, Vidarbha
Nagpur: After days of relentless heat and only sporadic drizzles, Nagpur finally experienced a refreshing change in weather on Thursday evening as strong winds, overcast skies and rain showers brought much-needed respite to the city. The sudden change in weather transformed the city's atmosphere, with many Nagpurkars stepping outdoors to enjoy the cool breeze and a dramatic sunset sky painted in shades of saffron, pink and golden yellow. The change was not limited to Nagpur alone. Several parts of Vidarbha also experienced light rainfall activity under the influence of favourable weather systems over central India. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a trough extending from south Madhya Pradesh to Jharkhand across Chhattisgarh, along with an upper air cyclonic circulation over Odisha and adjoining Chhattisgarh, continues to influence weather conditions across the region. Nagpur recorded a maximum temperature of 39.4°C on Thursday, nearly 3 degrees below normal, while the minimum settled at 24.6°C, bringing noticeable relief after evening showers and gusty winds. IMD has issued a yellow alert across multiple districts of Vidarbha for the next two to three days, warning of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds reaching speeds of 40-50 kmph at isolated places. The forecast indicates light rainfall activity at isolated places in Nagpur, Bhandara, Gondia, Chandrapur and Gadchiroli till Friday, while a few districts may continue to witness thunderstorm activity on Saturday as well. The rainfall distribution across Vidarbha on Thursday remained isolated but moderate in intensity. Amgaon recorded the highest rainfall at 44.2 mm, followed by Salekasa at 34 mm. Temperatures across the region remained below normal, offering relief from the intense summer heat. Washim recorded the highest maximum temperature in Vidarbha at 42.6 degrees Celsius, while Gondia registered the lowest minimum temperature at 19.2 degrees Celsius. In Nagpur, the evening breeze and scattered showers significantly reduced discomfort levels after a hot afternoon. The cloudy weather and dust-laden winds also led to a noticeable dip in temperatures during the evening hours. However, IMD has indicated that maximum temperatures over Vidarbha may gradually rise by 2-4 degrees Celsius over the next four days after the current spell weakens. Till then, residents can expect intermittent cloudy conditions, gusty winds and isolated thunderstorm activity to continue across parts of the region.Across Vidarbha, Washim remained the hottest at 42.2°C, while Chandrapur — often among the hottest cities — stayed comparatively cooler at 38.6°C amid changing weather conditions. Gondia recorded the region's lowest minimum temperature at 19.2°C, reflecting the impact of rain-bearing clouds and increased moisture across eastern Vidarbha.
